Maggie is an exceptionally talented person in many areas and music happens to
be an area she has excelled at. She grew up loving music in a small town in
Ca. She started early by singing with her mother at church functions
and then went to the school programs starting in Middle School- Band, Concert
Choir and the advanced group Select Choir. She later excelled in High School
joining all Choirs: Concert, Womens’, and the advanced Madrigal group as well as teaching her own class"Jazz choir". She was the first freshman to be allowed into the advanced choir! Band was a big part of her musical development as well: playing the piano in Jazz Band, and playing the Xylophone and bells in Marching band.
Maggie also found many of her friends and classmates would ask her to help her with their voice training and
musical skills. She even convinced the principle of her High School to allow her to organize a Jazz Choir that
became the hit of the school.
During her high school years she took traditional piano lessons from an exceptional teacher named Julie Pike. She
learned the piano slowly by learning the notes, rhythm, tempo, timing, key signatures, and many other ways of
reading music. She found it difficult and often frustrating to develop her talent in music theory; she often wanted
an easier way to learn piano with out having to learn how to read the notes and everything first. Maggie would
often say to her mom, "Isn't there an easier way to learn the piano? I just want to be able to play the music!"
Later in her life she discovered a way: "Simply Music"!
Later in her life she moved to Carlsbad, CA where she studied voice with John Hundington for 4 years. She then
moved onto Utah where she fulfilled a mission for her church. She was serving in the Salt Lake City area on
Temple Square and also in Oregon to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. After she served, she moved back to
Utah in the Provo area and studied voice with Martha Glissmeyer for a little more than two years. Martha gave
her the further knowledge she needed to excel her voice training.
Maggie has been teaching voice and piano lessons the traditional way for the last five years and Simply Music Way
this past year. This has been an exciting adventure for her to undertake; it has given her so many wonderful
opportunities to help people develop their musical abilities in a natural way. She teaches you how to use what you
have to produce wonderful music. She has taken on Betty Jeanne Chipman's guidelines for singing the natural way
in her book, "Singing With Mind Body & Soul." Betty was one of Martha Glissmeyer’s teachers when she was in
school. Betty's teachings are based on a natural approach to singing.
In her most recent discovery of musical development Maggie discovered a new way of learning the piano: the
"Simply Music" method. This is an Australian developed method that teaches you to play the piano immediately
from your very first lesson. This method is not a reading based method like the traditional piano lessons she was
taught; it's a playing based method. This method not only has you playing from your very first lessons, but you
are playing an arrangement of styles: Pop, Classical, Blues, and Accompaniment pieces. When Maggie discovered
this method she was so excited to get started and thought back to the first time she wanted to learn piano. She
wanted a simpler way of learning without learning all the theory and reading of music before you could play. She
now had a way of playing the piano before learning the music theory and a wonderful way to further her music
education as well as be able to teach piano from a playing based method. Gone are the grueling days of practice and
drilling. Here and now are the days of enjoying playing the piano and singing!
